Four days of wild trails, remote glens, big landscapes and super people.

The inaugural @gravel_north is under way, the start of something very special.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐎𝐧𝐞 - Coast to Coast (C2C) on a gravel bike. Some rough graded mountain gravel tracks with plenty champagne gravel on offer. Expertly linked together with stunning road sections. Not for the faint hearted, a physically demanding 88 mile C2C.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s inaugural @gravel_north four day race series on this machine 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Starting in Evanton, racing west to Applecross for two spectacular days, then returning across the Scottish Highlands back to Evanton.

Introducing the whip…

@marinbikes Gestalt XR, with XR standing for Extra Rad. Its low slung frame, slack head angle and mountain bike inspired geometry is perfectly suited to the rough Highland singletrack.

11 speed Shimano GRX with mountain bike SPDs.

The excellent @orangefoxbikes OFB carbon wheels, wrapped in 50mm @vittoriauk_tyres Terreno T50 rubber and set up tubeless. More to tell on the OFB wheels, at 1.09kg a pair they’re light, robust and can be used on the road too👌🏻

A medium @restrap frame bag and @mudhugger gravel fender at the rear. Removing the front as clearance is tight with those 50s 🙌🏻

And the secret sauce…

A dropper post (fitted as standard) for rough and rapid descents 💪🏻

Four days. One Extra Rad gravel machine. Some of the wildest most spectacular terrain in Highland Scotland. Let’s get it on 🔥

If you’ve ever considered riding a 300km Audax and thought “that sounds too much” then this is one I’d absolutely recommend.

Beautiful Scottish Borders roads, tarmac 👌🏻, big open landscapes, quiet miles and a route that just seemed to flow. For 300km, it never felt overly brutal. Albeit the strong head wind added some spice on our way to Johnstonebridge.

That’s the beauty of Audax. You don’t need to race it. Ride your own pace, eat plenty, enjoy the scenery and just keep turning the pedals. You also meet some amazing interesting people on the route as you cycle. Often bumping into them again on subsequent Audax rides 🫶🏻

300km might sound enormous.

Broken down into a day of riding, food stops, controls, conversations and scenery like this, it suddenly feels very achievable 👌🏻

If you’re thinking about stepping up your distance, put the Alemoor 300 on the list.

You might surprise yourself🚴‍♂️💨

Just one of many stunning road bike climbs on The Ratagan 333, never sure where to look on the tour. The Five Sisters of Kintail clearly viewed from this location.

The 333km route is designed for self guided discovery over one, two or three days. Starts and finishes at 42Cycling Adventure hub located on the grounds of Highland Coast Hotels HQ of Lochardil House Hotel in Inverness.
